Welcome to the www.ultimateproteinreview.com web site. Our mission is to provide you factually based information on the different types of whey protein on the market today. There are 3 basic types of whey protein:

  1. Whey Protein Concentrate – this type of protein can have as little as 29% protein to a maximum of 89% protein. It is a cheaper protein to manufacturer and is typically found in the lower end protein shakes.
  2. Whey Protein Isolate – this is the purest and most concentrated form of whey protein available. It contains 90% or more pure protein and very little fat and lactose.
  3. Hydrolyzed Whey Protein – this is typically a whey protein isolate that has had its amino acid peptide bonds broken into smaller chains. The theory here is that these smaller bonds will absorb better into the stomach. However, this type of protein tastes bad and is not palatable. Also, manufacturers are no required to tell you what percentage of their protein is hydrolyzed vs. concentrate.

Buying a whey protein supplement requires research. Know what type of protein you are buying and what types of protein are in each product. Pricing should not be your only consideration when buying a whey protein product.
